He completed a 10-month internship at the IU Medical Center before being inducted into the U.S. Army Medical Corps as a captain. Holden was born in Brazil, Indiana and worked to earn his undergraduate pharmaceutical degree from Purdue University in 1958 and his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine five years later. Some time after serving as a medical officer in the United States Army, he joined the IU Faculty in 1973 and later became a professor with full benefits in 1982, and he later became the chairman of the board to the IU School of Medicine’s Department of Radiology. He had received several awards during his career: the Distinguished Alumni Award from Purdue University, the Bowen Distinguished Leadership Award from the IU School of Medicine, and the Gold Medal Award from the Indiana Roentgen Society.Item Steven Beering - Oral History Interview Part 1 and Part 2, December 7, 2000(2018-03-22) Van Allen, ElizabethDr. Steven C. Beering, Steve M.D. serves as President Emeritus of Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. Dr. Beering served as the President of Purdue University from 1983 to 2000. Dr. Beering served as Dean of the Indiana University School of Medicine and Director of the Indiana University Medical Center from 1974 to 1983. He served as the Chairman of National Science Board since 2006 and as its Director since 2002. He serves as a Director of American United Life Insurance Company. He served as Independent Director of NiSource Inc. from 1986 to May 15, 2012.Item Ward "Bill" Moore Oral History Interview Part 1 and Part 2, November 8, 2000(2018-03-24) Van Allen, ElizabethWard Moore was born in 1924 in Cowden, Illinois. He attended the University of Illinois, where he got both his AB in Zoology (1948) and his PhD in Physiology (1952). After working at A&M College in Oklahoma for several years, he and his family moved to Bloomington, Indiana and got a job at Indiana University as both the Associate Dean of the School of Medicine and later as the Director of the Medical Science Program in the city of Bloomington. After he retired in 1989, he traveled the world with his wife, he helped publish the book “Varsity Sports of Indiana University,” and help co-author “Lincoln in Print and Photograph” with his friend Cecil Byrd. He passed away at the age of 90 in 2014.
