Item Augustus Watanabe Oral History Interview Part 1 and Part 2, April 15, 2008(2018-03-24) Grau, KevinDr. Augustus Watanabe received a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology from Wheaton College in 1963 and a medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1967. He did additional postgraduate work in clinical pharmacology at the Laboratory of Clinical Science of the National Institute of Mental Health and in cardiology at the Indiana University Medical Center. Dr. Watanabe was a full-time faculty member at Indiana University School of Medicine from 1971 to 1990, and, in 1978, he became the youngest Professor of Medicine at the University. From 1983 to 1990, he served as Chairman of the Department of Medicine.Item D. Craig Brater Oral History Interview, February 19, 2008(2018-03-23) Grau, KevinD. Craig Brater When he joined Indiana University in 1986, he helped establish the Division of Clinical Pharmacology in the Department of Medicine. Later, he was selected as the chair of the Department of Medicine in 1990. In 2008, Brater was awarded an honorary doctorate from Purdue University. In 2013, he retired from IU after a combined 27 years of service, and was presented with The University Medal, by IU President Michael McRobbie, for his dedicated leadership through his career. Throughout his career, he has published over 150 medical papers in peer reviewed journals.Item Daniel F. Bowen to his current position as CEO of Clarian Health Partners, Daniel F. Evans, Jr. has been a witness to and a participant in the transformation of the medical marketplace in state of Indiana. Given the importance of the creation of Clarian Health Partners to the development of the IU School of Medicine, Mr. Evans provides a vital perspective on the recent history of the school. His position with an adjacent and interdependent institution offers a unique narrative on the evolution of clinical practice in IUSM and the concomitant changes in teaching and research.Item John F. Fitzgerald Oral History Interview, February 20, 2008(2018-03-23) Grau, KevinDr. Fitzgerald was selected by the IUMG – SC’s board of directors after an extensive search and screening process which included internal and external candidates. A physician with a business degree, he has experience leading a large medical group and health plan as well as a broad network of state and county health industry and government contacts. IUMG – SC is the practice plan for IU physicians. A professor of medicine and adjunct professor in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Dr. Fitzgerald is a general internal medicine physician. He has served as president and CEO of IU Medical Group – Primary Care since 2000; and was executive vice president and chief medical officer of that group from 1996-2000. He has served in leadership roles in IUMG – PC’s predecessor organization, IU Health Care and its IU Health Plan, since 1992.Item Mitch Roob Oral History Interview Part 1 and Part 2, January 31, 2008(2018-03-24) Grau, KevinIn 1994 Mitch Roob was appointed President of Marion County Health and Hospital Corporation in the administration of Mayor Stephen Goldsmith. HHC operates, through its two divisions, the Marion County Health Department and the health care system built around Wishard (formerly City) Hospital: Wishard Health Services. City Hospital and its successors are important sites for physician training and community service for the IU School of Medicine. Beginning in the late 1960s the medical school and its faculty expanded their service to Wishard culminating in a contract to direct medical services at the hospital, a change that brought the clinical roles of IU doctors at Wishard in line with the departmental chairs of the medical school.Item Ora H. Pescovitz Oral History Interview, April 17, 2008(2018-03-24) Grau, KevinOra H. Pescovitz was born in 1957 and received her Doctorate in Medicine at Northwestern University in Illinois in 1979. After her graduation, she had served two different Pediatric Residencies at the University of Minnesota for two years and at Children’s Hospital National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. for one year. From 1988 to 2009, Pescovitz had worked at Indiana University and with the IU School of Medicine as a Professor of Pediatrics and of Physiology, Executive Associate Dean of Research Affairs, Interim Vice President of Research Administration, and was the President and CEO of Riley’s Hospital for Children. She currently serving as the seventh President of Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.Item Robert B. Jones Oral History Interview, April 22, 2008(2018-03-30) Grau, KevinRobert B. Jones specializes in treating and researching infectious diseases in Indianapolis, Indiana. He received his medical education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine and did both his residency and internship at the University of Washington. He is currently associated with the Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Affairs Medical Center Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis. He is currently certified to practice medicine in the states of Utah, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota. He is a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine in the fields of Internal Medicine.
