dc.description.abstract | Only 44 percent of the 669 passenger vehicle occupants fatally injured in 2007 Indiana traffic collisions were wearing the proper safety restraints. Occupant protection devices (including safety belts, child restraint seats, airbags, and helmets) are designed for the specific purpose of reducing the occurrence and severity of injuries in traffic collisions. This fact sheet summarizes occupant protection data trends, legislation, and public awareness efforts at the national, state, and local levels with a particular emphasis on restraint use and injuries resulting from Indiana passenger vehicle collisions between 2003 and 2007. | en_US |
