In 2013, 41,589 passenger vehicle occupants were injured or killed in Indiana traffic collisions; 88 percent were wearing safety restraints. This fact sheet summarizes occupant protection data trends at state and county levels. Restraint use and injury analyses are limited to those occurring in passenger vehicles (defined as passenger cars, pickup trucks, sport utility vehicles, and vans). Analyses include data from several sources; Indiana data come primarily from the Indiana State Police Automated Reporting Information Exchange System, as of March 21, 2014. The overall Indiana observed seatbelt use rate in 2013 was 91.6 percent, up 10 percentage points since 2004.en_US
