This fact sheet examines several aspects of motorcycle collisions within Indiana, including fatality and injury rates among riders, alcohol-related collisions, helmet use and effectiveness, licensing statistics, traffic citations and violations, and the overall geography of motorcycle collisions in the state. Summary data and national comparisons are taken from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), maintained by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Data specific to Indiana are drawn from the Vehicle Crash Records System (VCRS) from 2003 to 2006, maintained by the Indiana State Police.en_US
